Seven-inch peppermint-patterned flowers make Summerific® Glitter Bomb Hibiscus one of the most distinctive hardy hibiscus introductions for late-summer color. Hibiscus ‘Glitter Bomb’ opens white-to-pale-pink blooms brushed with deeper pink markings and centered by a prominent red eye above dark olive-green foliage. The broad, rounded plant reaches about 4 to 4½ feet tall and 5½ to 6 feet wide, creating a substantial mound once established.
Summerific® Glitter Bomb Hibiscus belongs to a hardy hibiscus group developed from North American native species and is perennial in USDA zones 4 to 9. It flowers from midsummer into late summer, attracting bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds while showing documented deer resistance. The plant tolerates wet ground once established and works well in rain gardens, moist borders, pond-side plantings, and the rear of large perennial beds. Its dense, rounded habit also makes it useful as a seasonal focal point where its tropical-scale flowers can rise above shorter summer perennials.
Summerific® Glitter Bomb Hibiscus Care
Plant Summerific® Glitter Bomb Hibiscus in spring or early fall, preferably before periods of intense summer heat, in full sun to part sun. It performs best in moist, well-drained loam but also tolerates heavier clay, sandy soils, and periodically wet sites once established. An acidic soil with a pH below 7.0 is preferred.
Water regularly during establishment, keeping the root zone evenly moist between irrigations. Established plants flower and leaf out more fully when moisture remains dependable during hot weather, particularly in drier soils. Apply a granular perennial or rose fertilizer in early spring after the ground has thawed. Mulch the root zone with 2 to 3 inches of organic material, especially during the first winter, keeping mulch away from the crown.
Leave the stems standing through fall, then cut the previous year’s growth close to the ground in spring before new shoots appear. Deadheading can improve appearance but is not required for continued flowering. Hardy hibiscus emerges late in spring, so allow extra time before assuming the crown has failed.
Summerific® Glitter Bomb Hibiscus Spacing
Space plants about 5½ to 6 feet apart to accommodate the broad mature spread. For containers, choose a substantial pot at least 20 to 24 inches wide with drainage holes and a moisture-retentive outdoor potting mix. Check container moisture frequently during summer because the large leaves and rapid seasonal growth can draw considerable water.
Summerific® Glitter Bomb Hibiscus Companion Plants
Joe Pye weed is a strong landscape companion for moist, sunny sites and extends the late-season pollinator activity around the hibiscus. Buttonbush, another native plant, suits nearby rain-garden or pond-edge plantings because it also accepts consistently moist ground and provides woody structure beyond the hibiscus growing season. In oversized containers, bacopa can trail over the rim beneath the upright hibiscus canopy and appreciates regular moisture like hibiscus.

We encourage all plant lovers to purchase the Plant Addicts Warranty, whether you're a new gardener or an expert. There are many variables outside of anyone's control that can cause a plant to die. If there is extreme heat we may delay shipping for a week or several weeks.
We review what areas the plants are traveling through as well as your location.
