About Teresa Odle

Teresa Odle is a garden writer, editor, and Master Gardener with extensive experience gardening in dry, drought-prone conditions.

She was trained as a Master Gardener in Albuquerque while working as a full-time freelance writer and editor, combining her gardening knowledge with professional writing and editing experience.

Teresa has written feature articles for magazines, trade journals, and websites, with a particular focus on drought-tolerant gardening, xeriscaping, native plants, and practical gardening in challenging climates.

Her Approach to Gardening

Teresa's gardening experience is rooted in learning how to grow successfully with limited water. Her work focuses on practical ways to create attractive, productive landscapes in dry climates while using water thoughtfully.

She has firsthand experience maintaining a large xeric garden, vegetable garden, and four acres of land in the dry foothills of the southeastern New Mexico mountains.

Teresa received Master Gardener training in Albuquerque while working as a full-time freelance writer and editor.

She has used that combination of horticultural knowledge and writing experience to create feature articles for magazines, trade journals, and websites.

Teresa also contributes gardening product reviews and serves as editor of African Violet Magazine for the African Violet Society of America.

Gardening in a Drought

In 2013, Teresa started the blog Gardening in a Drought, documenting the challenges of maintaining a large xeric garden, vegetable garden, and four acres of land in the dry foothills of southeastern New Mexico.

In 2016, the blog received a top writing award from GardenComm, formerly known as Garden Writers of America.

In 2020, Gardening in a Drought was moved to Plant Addicts so more gardeners could access Teresa's information about drought-tolerant gardening.
