Mauve Marble™ Hebe (Hebe andersonii ‘IB 605-2’ USPPAF) offers bold foliage color long before it flowers. The evergreen leaves emerge deep green edged in creamy white, then develop soft pink and caramel tones as temperatures shift. In summer and early fall, upright mauve flower spikes rise above the compact mound, drawing bees and other pollinators. Mature plants hold a neat 2 to 3 foot height and width, making them easy to place in smaller landscapes. In our coastal beds and patio containers, it has provided consistent structure and color with minimal upkeep.
Hebe andersonii hybrids trace their origins to New Zealand species valued for evergreen form and adaptability. Mauve Marble™ maintains a naturally rounded habit and keeps its foliage through winter in USDA Zones 7–11. It shows good tolerance to heat, light drought once established, and browsing by deer. The fine texture pairs well with ornamental grasses, dwarf conifers, and modern architectural plantings. Use it in low hedges, mixed borders, foundation plantings, rock gardens, or as a focal point in decorative containers where foliage detail can be appreciated up close.
Mauve Marble™ Hebe Care
Plant Mauve Marble™ in full sun for the strongest foliage color and best flowering. In very hot inland climates, light afternoon shade can help prevent leaf scorch. Provide sharply drained soil with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, ideally between 6.0 and 7.0. Hebe does not tolerate heavy, waterlogged clay, especially in winter. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish roots, then reduce frequency, allowing the top few inches of soil to dry between waterings. Feed in early spring with a shrub fertilizer for acid lovers if growth appears slow.
After flowering, lightly trim spent flower spikes to maintain a tidy outline. Avoid hard shearing into old wood, as Hebe does not always regenerate from bare stems. In colder parts of its range, apply mulch around the base in late fall to protect roots from freeze-thaw cycles. Container-grown plants benefit from winter protection in exposed locations.
Mauve Marble™ Hebe Spacing
Space plants about 2 feet apart for a dense border or low hedge effect. For individual specimens, allow 3 feet of room so the rounded form can develop fully. Choose a container at least 14 to 16 inches wide with excellent drainage. When combining with other plants in a pot, select companions with similar sun and drainage needs, such as trailing calibrachoa or compact ornamental grasses, and avoid overcrowding to maintain airflow around the evergreen foliage.
