Jurassic Park Reblooming Tall Bearded Iris is a rare rebloomer, bringing its canary yellow standards and lavender-purple falls back when most spring iris are finished. This tall bearded iris reaches about 36 inches in bloom with a spread of 18–24 inches, adding height to anchor a sunny border without looking coarse. It stands apart from many older irises by pairing broad, ruffled flowers with reliable rebloom potential in the right conditions. Our garden designers usually place this one near patios and paths because the color break between the standards and falls is easy to appreciate up close.
Iris germanica 'Jurassic Park' is a rhizomatous perennial bred for large flowers, upright fans, and repeat performance from late spring into late summer or early fall. The glaucous green foliage keeps a clean vertical look, and the blooms provide elegant presence in a vase. It is adaptable to different soil types and requires minimal intervention to look good. Use it in perennial borders, cottage-style plantings, and dry beds where taller flowers need structure without extra staking.
Jurassic Park Reblooming Tall Bearded Iris Care
Plant Jurassic Park Reblooming Tall Bearded Iris in full sun for the strongest bloom set, although it can handle partial shade with at least five hours of direct light. It grows in loam, sandy soil, or amended clay, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH around 6.0 to 7.5. Drainage is key, as the rhizomes should never sit in soggy ground.
Water newly planted rhizomes regularly until rooted in, then let the soil dry a bit between deep soakings since too much water can damage rhizomes. Feed once a year with a low-nitrogen fertilizer, or split it into light spring and post-bloom feedings in lean soil. In colder areas, some foliage will die back as the plant enters winter dormancy, but fresh fans will emerge in spring.
Remove spent flower stalks after blooming to keep the clump tidy and direct energy back into the rhizomes. In late fall, cut the foliage down to about 6-inch fans and clear away old debris to reduce overwintering borer issues. In colder zones, a light winter mulch can help protect the roots, but pull it away in early spring so the rhizomes are not smothered.
Jurassic Park Reblooming Tall Bearded Iris Spacing
Space plants about 18–24 inches apart so the fans have room to expand and air can move freely around the rhizomes. For containers, use a pot at least 14–18 inches wide with excellent drainage and keep the top of the rhizome close to the surface rather than buried deep.
In the landscape, pair Jurassic Park Iris with daylilies and salvia for a long season of color and contrasting flower forms. Use roses nearby when you want the upright iris foliage to break up heavier shrub growth. In containers, verbena works well at the rim while calibrachoa softens the edge below the iris' tall spring bloom stalks.
