Snow-N-Summer™ Asiatic Jasmine puts on a spectacular color show. New growth flushes pink, turns white, then settles into green and white variegation across a low carpet of evergreen leaves. It stays compact at about 1 foot tall and 2 to 3 feet wide. Small white flowers arrive in the warm season and add a light fragrance. Our landscape designers find Trachelospermum asiaticum 'HOSNS' especially useful for shaded spots that need more brightness than plain green groundcovers usually bring.
This woody evergreen has a trailing, twining habit, so it can cover soil, spill from containers, or be guided along a short support. It holds up well through heat and some dryness once established, which makes it a smart choice for slopes, path edges, and narrow foundation beds. The blooms add a seasonal bonus, but the foliage is the main attraction for most of the year. Use it where the changing leaf color can soften stonework, dress the base of shrubs, or bring movement to a shaded patio planting.
Snow-N-Summer™ Asiatic Jasmine Care
Plant Snow-N-Summer™ Asiatic Jasmine in partial shade to full shade, protected from the hottest late afternoon sun. It adapts to many soil types, including loam, sandy soil, and clay-based mixes, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. Good drainage is important, since soggy soil can weaken the roots and reduce winter performance.
Water deeply after planting, and water again when the top few inches of soil start to dry. Once rooted in, this jasmine handles short dry spells, though it keeps a fuller look with occasional deep watering during extended heat. Feed in early spring with a balanced slow-release fertilizer.
Prune after flowering to shorten runners or keep the edges tidy along a walk or bed line. Light tip trimming during the growing season can spur more colorful new foliage, which is one of the main reasons people grow this selection. In colder parts of its range, the foliage stays evergreen but may slow down noticeably through winter. In containers, move pots to a sheltered area during severe winter weather so the root zone is not exposed to repeated freeze and thaw cycles.
Snow-N-Summer™ Asiatic Jasmine Spacing
Space plants 1 to 2 feet apart for faster ground coverage, or 2 to 3 feet apart when you want each plant to fill in at a slower pace. For containers, use a pot at least 12 to 16 inches wide so the plant has room to trail and develop a fuller crown.
For companion planting, pair this asiatic jasmine with hostas, hellebore, and azaleas/rhododendron for a layered shade planting with strong leaf contrast. In mixed containers, it works well with impatiens and fuchsia, where the jasmine can spill over the rim while the flowering plants carry the upper layer.
