Princess Zoey™ Crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia x ‘GA0804’ PPAF) delivers a long season of red and pink flower clusters that open in summer and continue into fall. The two-tone blooms stand out against dark green foliage, which shifts to red-purple tones as temperatures cool. This compact crape myrtle grows about 4 to 5 feet tall and roughly 3 feet wide. Compared to larger tree-form crape myrtles, it offers the same extended bloom period without dominating the garden. We recommend Princess Zoey™ for bold summer color in a manageable shrub form that won’t outgrow its space.
Princess Zoey™ forms a dense, multi-stemmed habit and tolerates heat, humidity, and short dry periods once established. It is deciduous, with smooth stems that add subtle winter interest after leaf drop. Deer typically leave it alone, and modern hybrid breeding has improved resistance to common foliar diseases such as powdery mildew. It works well in mixed shrub borders, foundation plantings, mass plantings, and pollinator gardens, and it complements contemporary, cottage, and urban garden styles. Its upright structure also makes it suitable for large patio containers where summer bloom is the focal point.
Princess Zoey™ Crapemyrtle Care
Plant Princess Zoey™ in full sun for maximum flowering; fewer than six hours of direct light will reduce bloom production. It prefers well-drained soil and adapts to sandy or loamy conditions, performing best in slightly acidic soil with a pH between 5.5 and 6.5. In alkaline soils, foliage may yellow due to iron chlorosis. Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system, then irrigate during extended drought. Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins, avoiding excessive nitrogen that can promote leafy growth at the expense of flowers.
Remove spent flower clusters to encourage continued blooming through the season. In late winter or very early spring, thin crossing branches and remove weak interior growth to maintain structure. Avoid heavy shearing, which disrupts the plant’s natural form. In colder parts of Zone 6, mulch the root zone to protect against winter temperature swings.
Princess Zoey™ Crapemyrtle Spacing
Space plants about 3 feet apart for mass plantings or low flowering hedges, allowing neighboring plants to form a continuous display. For individual specimens, provide at least 4 feet of clearance to showcase the natural shape. In containers, select a pot at least 20–24 inches wide with excellent drainage. Pair with heat-tolerant companions such as trailing lantana, blue salvia, or ornamental grasses like dwarf fountain grass for a layered summer display.
