Princess Kylie™ Crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia x ‘GA0803’ PPAF) is made for long-season color in a small footprint. From summer into fall, it throws clusters of magenta flowers over soft gray-green foliage that reads cooler and more modern than the typical crape myrtle look. It’s compact enough to fit a townhouse bed or sunny patio corner, but it still delivers that classic crape myrtle “wow” when it hits peak bloom. We like this one for spaces that need a punchy flower color without committing to a full-size shrub or tree.
Beyond the flowers, Princess Kylie™ keeps a tidy, bushy habit that works in contemporary foundation plantings, mixed borders, and mass plantings where you want repeatable shape. It is deciduous, heat-tolerant, and fairly drought tolerant once established. In warm climates, Princess Kylie™ is a reliable pollinator stop during the hottest part of the year when other plants can stall. Use it as a low hedge along a walkway, a color block in front of taller evergreens, or as a single focal shrub in a gravel garden or modern courtyard style.
Princess Kylie™ Crapemyrtle Care
Pick a site with full sun for best flowering; light shade is fine, but blooms thin out as shade increases. Plant into loose, moisture-holding soil that drains well, and aim for slightly acidic conditions—many crape myrtles can struggle with yellowing leaves in alkaline soils because iron becomes harder to take up. Water deeply when the top layer of soil has dried, and then let the surface dry again; constant sogginess is what causes trouble. Feed lightly in spring as growth begins (too much nitrogen can push leaves at the expense of flowers).
Crape myrtles flower on new growth, so shaping should be done in late winter or very early spring before the season gets going. Skip hard “topping”, which creates weak shoots and an awkward structure. Instead, thin a few crowded stems at the base, shorten only the shoots that truly need it, and keep the best framework intact. For container plants, protect the pot from hard freezes (tuck it against a wall or wrap the container), since roots in pots experience colder temperatures than roots in the ground.
Princess Kylie™ Crapemyrtle Spacing
In the ground, give it about 4 feet between plants if you’re lining them up for a low hedge or repeating them through a border; that leaves room for the canopy to fill in without constant pruning.
For a patio planting, use a large container (think half-barrel scale) so the shrub isn’t fighting the pot all season—about 18–24 inches across is a practical starting point for a plant this size. Treat Princess Kylie™ as the “thriller” in the middle, then add shallow-rooted, sun-loving companions around the edge: trailing verbena or calibrachoa for spill, compact angelonia or gomphrena for filler, and a silver foliage accent like dusty miller to echo the gray-green leaves.
