Moonglow Juniper Tree holds a striking silver-blue cast all year instead of fading into the background like many standard evergreens. It grows in a broad pyramidal shape with dense branching, reaching about 15 to 20 feet tall and 4 to 6 feet wide. The foliage reflects light beautifully, so the plant appears brighter and cleaner than darker green conifers in sunny beds. We highly recommend Juniperus scopulorum 'Moonglow' for privacy, deer resistance, and a cooler foliage tone to break up all the usual greens.

This Rocky Mountain juniper selection is derived from a North American species and is valued for handling tough conditions. It stays evergreen through winter, tolerates wind, salt, urban exposure, and lean soils. It also provides useful cover for birds in the landscape. The compact branching makes it a dependable choice for windbreaks, property edges, and long foundation lines. Use it as a specimen where the blue foliage can stand alone, or repeat it in groups when you need strong vertical structure with a softer color effect.

Moonglow Juniper Tree Care

Plant Moonglow Juniper Tree in full sun and well-drained soil for the best color and the most compact growth. It adapts to clay, sandy soil, rocky ground, and alkaline or neutral pH, but it should not sit in wet or soggy areas.

Water deeply during the first growing season. Later, let the soil dry a bit between soakings as the roots establish. Once settled in, this water-wise juniper usually only needs extra water during extended heat or unusually dry weather. Feed lightly in early spring with a general-purpose evergreen fertilizer, and expect the foliage to stay unscathed through winter.

Prune in late winter or early spring if you need to clean the outline or remove dead interior wood. Avoid cutting deep into old bare branches, since junipers do not fill back in well from older wood. In snowy or icy regions, shake off heavy buildup when possible so the upright branches do not splay under weight.

Moonglow Juniper Tree Spacing

Space Moonglow Juniper Tree 4 to 6 feet apart for a screen, or allow 6 to 8 feet between plants so each one can keep a more defined pyramidal shape. For containers, choose a large pot at least 20 to 24 inches wide with fast drainage, especially if the plant will be used near an entry or porch for several seasons.

Moonglow Juniper Tree grows well with roses, blanket flowers, and sedum for a sunny, long-bloom planting that plays off the silver-blue foliage. In large containers, underplant with calibrachoa and verbena so the bloom trails over the rim while the juniper maintains height.
