For a continuous supply of color throughout the growing season, check out the Lucky™ Red Lantana. Botanically called Lantana camara 'Lucky™ Red', this small perennial shrub produces an abundance of orange-red flowers from late spring until the fall. A mound of dark green, toothed foliage helps set off the blooms magnificently. It remains compact to around 16 inches tall.
The Lucky™ Red Lantana naturally forms a pleasing mounded shape. It is a tough perennial and is especially heat and drought tolerant. Furthermore, good salt tolerance makes it ideal for coastal locations. Known to attract bees and butterflies, it is thankfully resistant to deer and rabbits. Lucky™ Red is perfect for planting in an herbaceous border or growing in a container.
Lucky™ Red Lantana Care
The Lucky™ Red Lantana is happiest when it is grown in full sun and in well-drained, slightly acidic soil. Even though it is drought tolerant once mature, regular irrigation is needed to help it establish. Feed with a slow-release fertilizer in spring or a liquid feed throughout the summer.
Minimal pruning is required for the Lucky™ Red Lantana. However, you can lightly trim after the first flush of flowers to neaten its appearance and encourage future flowering.
Lucky™ Red Lantana Spacing
The Lucky™ Red Lantana can grow to around 12 to 16 inches tall and 12 to 14 inches wide. Space plants around 10 to 14 inches apart, depending on how close you would like the plants to intermingle.
