Laser Beam™ Delphinium, also known as Larkspur, brings saturated blue color into the garden with upright flower spikes that read bold and clean from a distance. Each stem carries large, well-defined florets that stack neatly along the spike, creating a strong vertical accent from early to mid-summer. Plants reach 24 to 30 inches tall, making them easy to integrate into beds of any size. The vivid blue tones hold their intensity even in bright sun, which sets this selection apart from softer, washed-out varieties. We especially like using Laser Beam™ when a planting needs height and color contrast without relying on staking or constant correction.
This herbaceous perennial forms a narrow, upright clump with fresh green foliage that supports the blooms without competing for attention. The flowers are lightly scented and highly attractive to bees and butterflies throughout the bloom window. Deer resistance and strong heat tolerance make it a dependable choice for exposed garden sites. Laser Beam™ works well in cutting gardens, mixed perennial borders, and cottage-style plantings where vertical rhythm matters. It also performs beautifully in groups, where repeated spikes create a structured, almost architectural effect.
Laser Beam™ Delphinium Care
Laser Beam™ prefers open, sunny locations where air movement keeps foliage healthy and stems upright. Soils should be fertile and moisture-retentive without staying soggy, with a slightly acidic to neutral pH range of about 6.0 to 7.0. Regular watering during active growth supports strong stems and full flower development, especially during warm spells. A balanced fertilizer applied in spring and again after flowering begins helps sustain bloom quality. Mulching around the base helps regulate soil temperature and conserves moisture through summer.
Once the main flower spikes finish, cut the stems back to a lower set of leaves to keep the plant tidy and encourage fresh basal growth. In favorable conditions, a lighter second flush may follow later in the season. After frost, remove remaining stems at ground level. In colder regions, plants benefit from good drainage over winter.
Laser Beam™ Delphinium Spacing
Space Laser Beam™ Larkspur about 14 to 16 inches apart so each plant has room to develop strong, upright stems. This spacing works well for borders and cutting rows where airflow is important. For container growing, choose pots at least 14 inches wide and deep to anchor the plant’s vertical growth.
