This juicy, red, hybrid beefsteak tomato will capture your tastebuds with its tangy and acidic flavor! This plant is a heavy producer and grows many ten-ounce to twelve-ounce blemish-resistant fruits. It matures after 75 days of growth and produces fruit for the rest of the season. You can slice it and eat it fresh or cook it in any way! A hybrid of the Brandywine and Costolo Genovese varieties, these tomatoes are known for their juicy flavor.

Heirloom Marriage Genuwine Tomato Plant Care

Plant this tomato plant in moist, well-drained soil after the chance of frost has passed and the weather is consistently warm. Select an area with full sun, with at least six hours of direct light a day. Pinch off sucker shoots at the junction between the main stem and the branches. Make sure to plant this tomato in an area where no peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, potatoes, or eggplants have been grown in the past three years, so it can access plenty of nutrients and avoid any attack by diseases. 

Growing Heirloom Marriage Genuwine Tomato Plant

This tomato is a trailing variety and can be grown in pots, but it performs best in the ground or a raised bed. While technically trailing tomatoes don’t need to be staked, all tomatoes can benefit from a structure like a tomato cage supporting the main stem. This plant grows 5-7 feet in height and has a spread of 2-3 feet. 

When grown in a container, test the moisture levels often. The branches will flow down the sides of the pot to create a fountain-like effect. Plant it in a pot 24 inches in diameter. If you need to repot it, flip the plant in the pot upside down and tap the bottom. Once the plant slides out, loosen the root ball by scratching lightly with your fingers to untangle some of the larger roots. Then, place the plant in the new pot with the top of the root ball at the top of the pot and fill in the remaining space with potting soil; leave a few inches of space at the top of the pot for watering. Finally, cut back all stems except for two or three top branches. If the plant goes into root shock, it should bounce back in about a week or so, but you can give it about a cup of sugar water, which should help.

Water often and keep the soil moist but not soggy or waterlogged. To achieve this, water about twice a week. If you are still determining if it needs water, stick your finger in the soil to see if it is moist, and water if it feels dry when the fruits start to ripen; water only when the leaves begin to wilt to ensure the best flavor possible!

Feeding Heirloom Marriage Genuwine Tomato Plant

Tomatoes are heavy feeders, so feed often with a fertilizer with a ratio of three parts nitrogen, four parts phosphorous, and six parts potassium. Depending on your needs, you can also use a four parts nitrogen, seven parts phosphorous, ten parts potassium ratio. We recommend testing your soil to see what nutrients it has and what it might need.
