Everbearing Mulberry Tree is the fast-fruiting choice when you want months of sweet, blackberry-like berries without waiting forever. It matures around 10–15 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide, with big heart-shaped leaves and a spreading canopy that gives shade while the berries ripen from late spring into summer. The fruit is soft, juicy, and best harvested often to catch them at their sweetest and least messy. We’ve seen that Morus nigra as it's scientifically known is a reliable, self-fertile berry tree that can be kept shrub-like or trained into a small tree.

Everbearing Mulberry Tree Care

Plant Everbearing Mulberry Tree in spring after your last frost, spacing 20–25 feet from other trees to give the canopy room and make picking easier. Choose full sun for the heaviest fruiting, although it will tolerate partial sun. It prefers well-drained soil with a pH around 5.5–7.0. Do light pruning while the plant is young to build a strong framework, then only remove dead or broken branches in late winter or early spring.

Growing Everbearing Mulberry Tree

You can see fruit as soon as year 1–2 in good conditions, with berries ripening over an extended window rather than all at once. Give it open space to spread, or keep it tighter by selecting a few main trunks and thinning crowded shoots each winter. Start growing outdoors once frost risk is past, and keep a mulch ring under the canopy to reduce weed competition and keep moisture more even.

Growing Everbearing Mulberry Tree in Containers

Mulberries are usually happiest in the ground, but a young plant can be grown in a container for a few seasons using a 20–25 gallon pot with drainage and a fast-draining mix. Increase pot size as roots fill the pot. Use it as the “thriller” and soften the rim with marigolds and purslane, both of which handle sun and don’t demand constant watering. When you eventually plant it out, nearby companions like coneflower and yarrow help support pollinators without crowding the root zone.

Watering Everbearing Mulberry Tree

Water weekly during establishment, then switch to deep watering during dry spells, aiming for about an inch of water per week in the growing season. If leaves droop in the afternoon or the top few inches of soil are dry, it’s time to water.

Feeding Everbearing Mulberry Tree

Feed in early spring once the tree is established with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to support new growth and berry production. Avoid feeding in fall, since late, tender growth can be nipped by early frosts and set the plant back the next spring.
