Bonanza Patio Peach gives small-space gardeners full-flavored yellow peaches on a true dwarf tree. Prunus persica 'Bonanza' reaches about 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide, with firm, juicy golden-yellow fruit flushed red after rose-pink spring flowers. Its compact habit makes it easier to net, prune, harvest, and fit into a patio planting or edible garden than many full-size peach trees. Our best placement note is to give Bonanza Peach the warmest, most protected full-sun site available, since early bloom can be damaged by late spring freezes.
Bonanza Patio Peach Care
Plant Bonanza Patio Peach in spring after the ground can be worked, spacing trees about 6 to 8 feet apart in full sun with at least 6 hours of direct light daily. Use well-drained loam or sandy loam with a slightly acidic to neutral soil pH, roughly 6.0 to 7.0, and avoid low, soggy areas where cold air and water collect. Prune in late winter while dormant to remove dead, crossing, or crowded branches, and skip deadheading since the flowers need to set fruit.
Growing Bonanza Patio Peach
Bonanza Patio Peach typically ripens in mid summer, often about 90 to 120 days after bloom depending on spring weather and growing region. It is self-fruitful, so one tree can set a crop and its dwarf size makes harvesting from the ground much easier. Start container or bare-root trees in early spring, and grow indoors only temporarily in a bright, cool protected space before moving outside, since this peach needs at least 450 winter chill hours and outdoor sun to fruit well.
Growing Bonanza Patio Peach in Containers
Bonanza Patio Peach is a strong patio fruit tree, edible accent, or small orchard specimen in a large container. Use a pot at least 20 to 24 inches wide with drainage holes, repot as roots fill the container, and refresh the top layer of mix each spring. In containers, it acts as the thriller plant, with oregano and thyme as lower, sun-loving companions. In the landscape, pair it with strawberry plants, lavender, or grape vines for an edible planting that utilizes the space efficiently.
Watering Bonanza Patio Peach
Water deeply when the top few inches of soil begin to dry, giving in-ground trees a slow soak about once weekly during dry stretches and container plants more often in heat. Wilting leaves, dropping young fruit, or soil pulling from the pot edge usually signal that watering has fallen behind.
Feeding Bonanza Patio Peach
Feed in early spring with a balanced fruit tree fertilizer or organic starter fertilizer, then follow the label for any light follow-up feeding after fruit set. Steady feeding supports leaf growth, bloom strength, and fruit development without forcing late tender growth before winter.
